What is Air Polishing?
Air Polishing is a dental hygienist treatment that quickly and effectively removes unwanted stains on the front and back of teeth.
It is a drill-less method of polishing that can be used to remove stains and surface discoloration from your teeth such as tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco, as well as staining caused by some mouthwashes.
The procedure involves using a fine jet of compressed air, water and fine powder particles to gently and completely remove staining.
The small particles are made of silica, aluminum oxide or baking soda and helps in cleaning the tooth surface. The particles and tartar are then suctioned out of the mouth.
Why use air polishing?
Air Polishing has many advantages as it generates no heat, sound, pressure or vibration, it is gentle and requires no contact or pressure against the teeth and reduces discomfort to those suffering from sensitivity. It removes up to 100% of dental plaque thereby helping to prevent decay, gingivitis and gum disease and is far more effective than a traditional polish. It can also be used on dental implants. In addition, it reduces the need for anesthesia, making it an ideal choice for patients with stained teeth who experience dental anxiety.
