I graduated from the University of Dundee in 2009 and began my career working in both hospital and the Public Dental Service before joining Kilmarnock Smile Studio in 2011. I have a particular interest in orthodontics and Invisalign, helping patients achieve straighter, more confident smiles.
My favourite part of dentistry is seeing the positive change in a patient’s confidence — whether it’s someone who can’t stop smiling after treatment or someone who has overcome their fear of the dentist.

Floss! It makes all the difference.

Meet Dr Calum McColl — Dentist in Kilmarnock and Irvine

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and joined Kilmarnock Smile Studio in 2022. I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry — from dentures to smile makeovers — and I have a particular interest in oral surgery and extractions (even if I try to avoid doing too many of them! 😄).

What I love most about general practice is the variety. No two days are the same, and I get to help patients with all different treatment needs. I especially enjoy working with anxious patients, supporting them through their journey and helping them feel calm, confident, and cared for.

My top tip:

Spit, don’t rinse — letting the toothpaste stay on your teeth works wonders!

What do you enjoy most about working at Dental Studio Scotland?

We have a fantastic team here — dentists, nurses, reception and management — and it really does make coming to work every day enjoyable.

Meet Dr Hannah Steven cosmetic and implant dentist in Kilmarnock Troon and Carluke.

I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2015 and spent many years working in Prestwick, where I’ve lived my whole life.

During that time, I gained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I later undertook further study to achieve a Dental Implant qualification through the Scottish Centre of Excellence in Dentistry, drawing great inspiration from the tutors and mentors who have guided me along the way.

Many dental procedures can be truly life-changing, depending on each individual’s circumstances. My passion lies in getting to know and genuinely caring for the person attached (or soon to be attached!) to the teeth. I take time to fully listen to and hear every patient’s wants and needs so that I can design and deliver a personalised treatment plan that feels right for them, ensuring they feel safe, comfortable and confident throughout their journey.

This approach is especially important when I’m carrying out dental implant treatments. Modern technology allows me to plan and rehearse every detail in advance, always keeping the patient’s ultimate outcome at the heart of the process. Working as part of an equally passionate team at Dental Studios Scotland means we can provide seamless, high-quality care down to the finest details.

Outside of work, I love beach walks with my four-year-old son and our cheeky cockapoo!

Top Tip:
Make sure you don’t rinse after brushing! It still surprises me how many people wash out with water or mouthwash after brushing. Brushing massages fluoride into the teeth to keep them as strong as possible; rinsing just washes it away or dilutes it. You’re doing the hard work but missing out on the full benefit! Simply spit, don’t rinse. If you’d like to use fluoride mouthwash, do it before brushing or as a top-up of the good stuff at another time of day.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and spent four years working in a rural NHS practice, followed by a year as a locum dentist before joining the team at Kilmarnock. I’m passionate about providing good, honest dentistry and helping patients feel comfortable, confident, and supported throughout their treatment.

My top tip:

If you’re using a manual toothbrush, choose a small, simple brush — no extras needed, just good technique.

Meet Dr John Fairlie — Implant Dentist in Glasgow and Kilmarnock

Before training in dentistry, I worked as a scientist, completing degrees in Pharmacology and a Doctorate in Neuroscience. I qualified as a dentist in 2010 and spent nine years working in both NHS and private general practice. After completing further postgraduate training and a Master’s degree, I now focus primarily on dental implants, travelling across Scotland and Northern Ireland to provide this treatment.

My clinical work involves the placement and restoration of dental implants, along with the surgical procedures needed to help patients regain both their smile and their dental function.

I enjoy meeting patients from all walks of life and supporting them towards their treatment goals. Working across different locations allows me to help more people access the care they need.

My top tip:

While implant dentistry can transform smiles, nothing is better than your natural teeth — so listen to your hygienist and protect what you have.

Meet Dr Muqtadeer Syed — Dentist in Troon and Kilmarnock

I am a General and Cosmetic Dentist with a Master’s degree and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS). I also hold a two-year Diploma in Orthodontics, which allows me to offer advanced teeth-straightening treatments.

I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, but I have a particular passion for Smile Makeovers and Orthodontics, including veneers, composite bonding, and Invisalign. My focus is always on achieving natural, confident smiles that suit each patient individually.
