Meet Dr Calum McColl — Dentist in Kilmarnock and Irvine

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and joined Kilmarnock Smile Studio in 2022. I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry — from dentures to smile makeovers — and I have a particular interest in oral surgery and extractions (even if I try to avoid doing too many of them! 😄).

What I love most about general practice is the variety. No two days are the same, and I get to help patients with all different treatment needs. I especially enjoy working with anxious patients, supporting them through their journey and helping them feel calm, confident, and cared for.

My top tip:

Spit, don’t rinse — letting the toothpaste stay on your teeth works wonders!

We have a fantastic team here — dentists, nurses, reception and management — and it really does make coming to work every day enjoyable.

Meet Dr Keeran McCarthy — Dentist in Irvine

Keeran graduated from Dundee Dental School in 2016 and has almost 10 years’ experience working in both the Public Dental Service and general practice. He believes in minimally invasive dentistry and uses techniques like dental dam isolation to ensure high-quality, long-lasting results. With experience in all areas of general dentistry, including composite fillings and root canal treatments, Keeran is calm, gentle, and particularly good at supporting anxious patients throughout their care.
Keeran’s favourite part of his job is helping patients regain confidence in their smile and overall oral health.

Meet Dr Taylor Paton — Dentist in Irvine

I graduated with Honours from the University of Glasgow in 2020 and have been part of the team at Irvine Dental Studio since 2023. I provide general NHS dentistry and have a particular interest in biomimetic restorative dentistry. I’ve completed a year-long mastership programme with the Alleman Center for Biomimetic Dentistry in Utah, which focuses on preserving natural tooth structure and delivering long-lasting, high-quality restorations.

Alongside my clinical work, I run an online dental education platform called The Hybrid Layer, where I collaborate with world-leading dentists to share knowledge and teaching with colleagues around the world.

My favourite part of dentistry is getting to know my patients and ensuring they feel relaxed, informed, and comfortable throughout their care. I also really enjoy working as part of the supportive and friendly team here at Irvine and Dental Studios Scotland.

Meet Amy Irving — Your Treatment Coordinator in Ayrshire

With 15 years’ experience as a qualified dental nurse across a range of clinical settings, including Glasgow Dental Hospital and specialist orthodontic practices, I bring both knowledge and care to every patient journey. I have worked closely with dental implant teams for over a decade, and in my role as Treatment Coordinator, I’m here to guide you through your options with clarity and confidence.

I offer complimentary consultations for anyone considering treatment, helping you understand the process, expected outcomes, and costs involved. I’m also your first point of contact for new patient enquiries, ensuring you feel supported, informed, and comfortable from the moment you reach out.

I’ve been a dental nurse for around 7.5 years, starting as a trainee before joining Dental Studios Scotland as a qualified nurse. I’m now the Lead Dental Nurse at our Irvine practice, helping manage the day-to-day running of the clinic and supporting our team of dentists and nurses.

I’m experienced in all areas of dentistry, including implant and cosmetic treatments, and I really enjoy helping staff grow in confidence and overcome challenges.
What I love most about working here is how supportive and flexible the company is — especially when balancing work and family life — as well as being part of such a fantastic, friendly team.

I’ve worked in dentistry for almost 9 years, both as a dental nurse and now as a dental receptionist. I’m very patient-focused, chatty, and friendly, and I really enjoy being front-facing with patients — helping ensure your journey feels smooth, comfortable, and well-informed from the moment you arrive.

One of my favourite parts of the job is the people I work with. We’re like one big family here, and that atmosphere is something our patients often notice. I love when patients come out of treatment feeling confident and happy, and they stop by the desk to tell me how well it went and how glad they are that they took the step.
