For many patients, visiting the dentist can trigger dental anxiety, or even full dental phobia. If you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or have avoided care due to fear, we are able to help. At Dental Studio Scotland, we offer safe and effective sedation techniques to help you receive the dental care you need, comfortably and without fear.
One of our most accessible options is inhalation sedation, also known as happy gas or laughing gas.
Please note this service is only available at our Carluke location.
Book at Carluke TodayInhalation sedation is a form of conscious sedation where you breathe a controlled mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a soft nosepiece. Within minutes, you’ll feel relaxed and calm. You remain awake and aware but less sensitive to sounds, smells, or sensations.
It’s ideal for:
This is not general anaesthetic, you won’t fall asleep, and there’s no loss of consciousness.
Inhalation sedation is one of the most established and safe and effective sedation techniques used in modern dentistry worldwide. It’s considered the lightest form of conscious sedation, with a very low risk of side effects when administered correctly.
It’s also a great alternative to intravenous sedation for patients who don’t want an injection or who are undergoing shorter, less complex dental procedures.
Most patients feel normal again within minutes. You’ll be assessed before leaving to ensure you can walk unaided
Rare side effects may include mild nausea or dizziness, if this happens, rest and hydrate. In extremely rare cases, patients may report a headache or brief disorientation
If you experience unusual symptoms after 24 hours, contact your dental practice immediately. In most cases, you won’t need someone to escort you home, but it’s best to confirm in advance based on your overall health and response.
If your treatment requires numbing, we’ll use a local anaesthetic—but only after you’re relaxed from the laughing gas. Most patients report not caring or noticing once sedated.
Yes, you’ll stay awake, but many patients feel detached from the experience. Some have hazy or minimal memory of the appointment.
