Whiter Teeth, Brighter Smiles—Safely and Professionally

Professional Teeth Whitening at Dental Studio Scotland

What is Teeth Whitening?

At Dental Studio Scotland, we offer two effective types of teeth whitening treatments:

  • In-clinic laser whitening.
  • Professional home whitening kits.

Both treatment options use a peroxide-based gel to gently lift stains from the surface of your teeth. This allows us to provide tailored concentrations for instant or gradual results.

Teeth Whitening Options

1. In-Surgery Laser Whitening (Instant Results)

Laser or “in-chair” whitening is performed in our clinics by a dentist or dental hygienist. We use a high-strength bleaching gel (up to 16% peroxide) activated by a special light. You can see results usually as soon as one to two hours after your treatment.

How it works:

  • Initial consultation to discuss whitening goals and if teeth whitening works for you
  • Your teeth are professionally cleaned (scale and polish)
  • Your current shade is recorded using a guide or digital photo
  • A protective barrier is applied to your gums, lips, and cheeks
  • Whitening gel is applied and activated with a light or laser, in 3 short sessions
  • The gel is removed, and your new shade is measured and reviewed

2. Professional Home Whitening Kits (Gradual, Long-Term Results)

Our at-home whitening kits offer a more gradual whitening experience. This is done using custom-fitted trays made specifically for your teeth. After taking impressions, your trays are created in a dental lab and typically returned within 5–7 days.

You’ll receive:

  • Custom upper and lower whitening trays
  • Professional-strength whitening gel
  • Detailed instructions for safe, at-home use
  • Follow-up in 2 weeks to check progress and record shade changes

These trays can be worn for a few hours in the evening or overnight, depending on your schedule and dentist’s recommendation.

Who is Suitable for Teeth Whitening?

Most adults are suitable for teeth whitening, but it’s not recommended for:

  • Patients under 18
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
  • Those with gum disease or untreated dental problems
  • Patients with crowns, veneers, or white fillings on visible front teeth (whitening will not change their colour)

We will assess your suitability at your initial consultation and recommend the best option based on your oral health and desired results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much whiter will my teeth look?

Results vary by individual. Some patients achieve a dramatically whiter smile, while others may see a few shades’ improvement. Stained teeth tend to respond more noticeably.

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients report only mild sensitivity, which typically resolves within 48 hours. We provide solutions to manage any discomfort, including fluoride gels or sensitivity-reducing toothpastes.

How long does in-clinic whitening take?

The appointment takes approximately 1 to 2 hours, including prep and the whitening process.

Can I combine in-surgery and at-home whitening?

Yes, combining both methods often provides the best short- and long-term results. Many patients start with in-surgery whitening and use a home kit for top-ups.

What are the side effects of teeth whitening?

The most common side effect is temporary tooth sensitivity. You may feel short bursts of sharp discomfort during or after treatment. Avoid hot or cold food and drinks for 48 hours, and use sensitivity toothpaste if needed.
